Washington Capitals re-sign forward to multi-year contract


The Washington Capitals have re-signed restricted free-agent Evgeny Kuznetsov to an 8-year, $62,400,000 contract. During the 2016-17 season, the russian forward notched 19 goals and 50 points in 82 games.

In the past 10 days, the Capitals have yielded $139 million to three players. T.J Oshie, the Capitals extended him to an 8-year, $46,000,000 contract. Defenceman Dmitry Orlov, which they extended him to a 6-year, $30,600,000.

Evgeny is a premier center in the NHL and we are pleased that he will remain in Washington for at least the next eight years, said GM Brian MacLellan. It is difficult to find a player of his caliber, who is in his prime and makes his teammates better. Evgeny plays with a tremendous skill, speed and tenacity needed to win in the NHL.

Kuznetsov was third on the team with most points during the Stanley Cup Playoffs with scoring 5 goals and 5 points in 13 games. Above him were T.J Oshie with 12 points and Niklas Backstrom with 13 points.

With restricted free agents Andre Burakovsky and Philipp Grubauer needing a contract next season, the Capitals will need to find a way to stay under the salary cap.
