Breaking: Tomas Plekanec to the Toronto Maple Leafs

The Leafs have announced the acquisition of centre Tomas Plekanec from the Montreal Canadians.

Per Bob McKenzie, The Leafs gave up Rinat Valiev, Kerby Rychel and a 2nd round pick in 2018 in exchange for Plekanec and AHLer Kyle Baun (grandson of Leafs legend, Bobby Baun).

This move helps shore up the 4th line centre position while only giving up 2 fringe NHL players and a draft pick.

They Leafs have been shopping for a 4th line centre for some time. With the recent news that Auston Matthews will be out for 2-4 weeks with a shoulder injury, the need for organizational depth at this position has never been greater in the past 2 seasons.

Of the 2 prospects acquired by Montreal, Rychel seems most ready to make the jump to the NHL after 2 very productive seasons with the AHL's Toronto Marlies. However, the obvious key piece in this deal for the Habs would be the 2nd round pick acquired.

What do you think of the price paid?
