Rumblings of blockbuster trade between Rangers and Avalanche

According to Colorado Avalanche insider Adrian Dater of BSN, there have been some rumblings of a blockbuster trade to happen between the New York Rangers and the Colorado Avalanche before the February 25th NHL Trade Deadline.

On Twitter, Dater has stated that the Rangers have sent scouts to the Colorado - Los Angeles game and that scouts have been following the Denver franchise everywhere they went. Dater believes that this due to the likelihood of trade happening between the two organizations.
I definitely think a deal of some magnitude could happen by deadline, Dater wrote.
What is interesting here is that Dater believes it to be a blockbuster trade, and when you consider that the Rangers director of pro scouting is personally handling the scouting mission, there must be a reason why.

Dater was pressed by fans about his comments if New York's Kevin Hayes is a target if a trade were to happen. He did not officially confirm that Hayes was the target of the trade speculation, but he did admit that if a trade were to happen, Colorado's Tyson Barrie could be a trade piece. This is just speculation at the moment, but this exchange involves two offensive players known for their production at different ends of the ice.

With Hayes being surrounded by trade rumors so far this season, do you see Colorado giving up one of their best defenceman for him?
