Auston Matthews scored the first goal of Game 5 in Boston, which turned out to be quite the controversial one. It was challenged by Boston for goaltender interference and the call stood.

Game 5 between the two rivals was physical, scoreless until the third and controversial. Auston Matthews scored the tiebreaker, but was challenged by Bruce Cassidy for goaltender interference after Zach Hyman pushed netminder Tuukka Rask.
