Edmonton Oilers fire two assistant coaches

Ken Holland has thrown down the axe as the newly minted Oilers GM has relieved assistant coaches Trent Yawney and Manny Viveiros. of their duties

Both coaches only spent one season in Edmonton and it appears didn't leave much of a mark. It's common for a new head coach to pick his support system, so it appears this was put into place once Dave Tippett agreed to his deal.

Yawney, 53, joined the Oilers after spending five seasons as an assistant with the Anaheim Ducks. He also served as the head coach for the Blackhawks from 05-07. Viveiros, 53, was the head coach of the WHL's Swift Current Broncos before he made his way to Edmonton.

As we get closer to the draft, expect the changes to continue in Edmonton.
