Report: Pittsburgh and Minnesota closing in on a deal for #81

Josh Yohe of the Athletic reported just moments ago, the Pittsburgh Penguins and Minnesota Wild are closing in on a deal and the centerpiece is Phil Kessel.

As you know from us, it's no secret Kessel has been shopped since the Pens were swept in the first round. To note from Elliotte Friedman, Kessel would have to approve a trade to the Wild as he has a modified trade clause and the Wild are on his list. The speculation is he will waive and be ok with a deal to Minnesota.

Kessel produces wherever he plays as the speedy winger had 82 points in 82 games last season for the Penguins. What the Wild are planning to give up has not yet been reported. Expect the Penguins to have their eye on names like Jason Zucker or Jonas Brodin. A younger player like Jordan Greenway may also catch the eye of Pens' GM Jim Rutherford, as the Penguins will look much different come opening night this upcoming fall.
