Rumor: Maple Leafs closing in on signing two UFA's

General Manager, Kyle Dubas has been working the phones like crazy over the past few days and according to sources, the Maple Leafs have their eyes on ex-Leaf defenseman Dion Phaneuf, and ex-Capital winger,  Devante Smith-Pelly.

Last season Phaneuf had a bad year on a terrible team, only finishing with 6 points. Early talks have suggested he may be interested in Montreal or Edmonton, however, there's speculation brewing that Morgan Rielly's recent vacation with Dion, was very successful in convincing the ex-captain to come back to the Maple Leafs.

Smith-Pelly on the other hand will be hovering around the league minimum next season after finishing the season with 8 points in 54 games. The Toronto native is capable of performing in the playoffs and is skilled enough to jump up and down your lineup, so DSP could be a good fit for the Leafs in their bottom six.

The Leafs have constantly been chirped for lack of size and physicality, and these two UFA help in that category.

Will Kyle Dubas be able to convince both players to wear the Blue and White?
