Report: Maple Leafs and Tyson Barrie discussing a massive contract extension

The newest Toronto Maple Leaf hasn't even suited up for his new team yet, however, the two sides have talked and Barrie has made it known what he's looking for on his next contract.

According to TSN's Steve Simmons, the offensive defenceman has informed the Maple Leafs he is looking for a 8-year deal at $8 million per season.

The 27-year-old was acquired in a July 1 blockbuster for Nazem Kadri, and the Maple Leafs were able to convince the Avalanche to retain half of the final year on Barrie's current deal. The tall task now presents itself of finding room for Barrie moving forward, and it appears GM, Kyle Dubas is willing to engage the conversation before the season even starts.

Barrie finished last season 7th in the league in points from a defenceman with 59 in 78 games played. A year the Maple Leafs are hopeful he can build on, playing along side his buddy Morgan Rielly.

What are your thoughts? Would you pay Barrie 8 sheets per?
