Rumor: Gerard Gallant To Coach Detroit Red Wings


Detroit Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman and NHL head coach, Gerard Gallant, were former teammates when they were members of the Red Wings. Yzerman has been credited with assembling the Tampa Bay Lighting's record tying roster while Gallant coached the Vegas Golden Knights to the Stanley Cup Finals in their inaugural season. Could Gallant be the future coach of the Detroit Red Wings?

While some teams are focused on making the playoffs, other teams are focused on NHL lottery day. They have their eyes on Alexis Lafreniere hoping they can begin to build upon their future.The days of the Red Wings dynasty may be over, but 4 Stanley Cup Championships in 10 years is a lot to be proud of. However, they are now entering their 4th consecutive season without playoff contention and they are still in a rebuilding phase.

The real question remains; is Gerard Gallant the right coach to take this organization from rock bottom back to Stanley Cup contenders? Despite having been released from his coaching duties in Vegas this week, Gallant has an impressive resume. He is well known to be a great communication and works well alongside a management, which is necessary for any coach who arrives at an organization in a significant transition.
