Rumor: Maple Leafs desperately trying to move defenceman

The Toronto Maple Leafs were embarrassed last night in Florida, and GM, Kyle Dubas continues to work the phones to try and shore up his defence. The team is desperately trying to package a young forward prospect with defenceman, Cody Ceci, in order to bring in a rugged d-man with playoff experience.

Cody Ceci has struggled all season, and was basically only acquired by Toronto to get rid of Nikita Zaitsev's contract via Ottawa. By releasing themselves from Zaitsev's deal it gave the team a few more years of flexibility in the deal. The team wasn't expecting much from Ceci, and that's exactly what they have received.

Ceci, 26, currently sits with 7 points in 46 games and has fallen down the depth chart to the bottom-pair. The RFA to be is making $4.5 million this season and will be looking for a long term deal come July.

Speculation circles suggestions Toronto has spoken with New Jersey, Anaheim, and San Jose regarding Ceci, as Kyle Dubas is looking to make a move as soon as possible.

The roller coaster season continues in Toronto and if the Leafs have it their way, Cody Ceci won't be around for much longer.
