Toronto Maple Leafs looking to add back-up goalie

The Toronto Maple Leafs have been searching for a back-up goalie for what seems like an eternity. GM Kyle Dubas has been working the phones for months, searching for a solution. The Leafs have been linked to the New York Rangers and Russian goaltender Alex Georgiev, but the price the Rangers have set may have scared Toronto away. The Leafs lack draft picks and cap space to make the kind of deal the Rangers are looking for. Dubas will have to look at cheaper options from other teams.

The Toronto Maple Leafs may look to California for a possible solution. Ryan Miller(ANH) and Aaron Dell(SJ) are two possibilities. Both Dell and Miller are UFA at the end of the year and both make a little over $1 million. Miller has a modified no-trade clause, so that might be an issue for the Leafs. The price for Dubas would most likely be Hutchinson and a mid round pick. Casey DeSmith(PIT) is an interesting name the Maple Leafs should consider. DeSmith is signed for two more seasons after this one and before the emergence of Tristan Jarry this year in Pittsburgh, DeSmith looked more than capable as a back-up and even a possible starter for the Pens in a few years. The Price for DeSmith would probably be Jeremy Bracco or Dmytro Timashov with a draft pick thrown in.

The Maple Leafs cannot have Andersen start all 33 remaining games this season, he already has slowed down this year from over use the previous two seasons. Kyle Dubas has little choice but to address this ASAP or risk missing the playoffs altogether this season.
