Joe Thornton sounds off on San Jose for not trading him
Joe Thornton was an advocate for San Jose to bring back Patrick Marleau this season, and when the team traded Marleau to a contender and didn't move Thornton along with him, it appears it struck a cord with the veteran.
Look for Thornton to move on come July 1st as it appears the relationship with San Jose will never be the same.
Sharks GM, Doug Wilson had this to say on the matter:Joe Thornton: “As you get older you realize you only have so many shots at this thing, and it would have been nice to have a chance. ... I wanted a shot. I’ve been hunting this thing down for 22 years.”— Kevin Kurz (@KKurzNHL) February 25, 2020
Joe was very involved in the process and was willing to explore it. Ultimately it didn't come to fruition.Thornton went on to mention:
I really don't know why. Obviously the teams went in different directions. That's obviously what happened because I'm still here and still a Shark, which I'm happy to be. I wanted another shot at the Cup, I'm getting a little older. It's not my last hurrah, I still think I've got years left. Obviously I was willing to go somewhere and try to win my first Stanley Cup. I've been dreaming about that forever, since I can remember.
Look for Thornton to move on come July 1st as it appears the relationship with San Jose will never be the same.
