Rumor: Oilers and Red Wings Discussing Trade

The Edmonton Oilers and Detroit Red Wings have reportedly had discussions on swapping a pair of young forwards.

Jim Matheson of the Edmonton Journal tweeted yesterday that the Oilers and Red Wings are talking about making a swap for forwards Andreas Athanasiou and Jesse Puljujarvi. Other sources have reported that Detroit GM Steve Yzerman may be looking to try and get a 1st round pick for Athanasiou, but that may be too steep for a guy with 19 points and is a -35 on the season.

My guess is the Oilers need to offer their 2nd round pick or NHL ready defenseman William Lagesson along with Jesse Puljujarvi to get the deal done with Detroit. Edmonton may even be forced to include someone like Jujhar Khaira to offset the cap.

The connection between Oilers GM Ken Holland and Red Wings GM Steve Yzerman is obvious, but will they be able to come together on a trade?
