Video: Emergency backup David Ayres and the Canes beat the Leafs

David Ayres was ready for another night at the office. Sitting, wishing, waiting for the potential of playing in an NHL game. Thanks to injuries to both Carolina goaltenders, Ayres got his chance against, his own team...

Ayres came into Saturday night's game after both James Reimer and Petr Mrazek got hurt for the Hurricanes and he was tested a ton but played well enough to win the game. The best part of the night, may have been is wife's reaction when Mrazek went down with injury and reality set in.
Ayres is the Zamboni driver for the AHL Toronto Marlies and also is the Operation Manager at the old Maple Leaf Gardens, now the Mattamy Athletic Centre in Toronto. Ayres also spends time with the Maple Leafs, practicing and filling in where ever they need on a daily basis. Who knew, his first win in the NHL would come against his employer.

Amazing night for David Ayres, an evening him and his family will never forget. For the Leafs, this one stings.
