Some Demand Chicago Blackhawks Change Logo

There have been protests and calls for change in light of the death of George Floyd. The movement against systemic racism and oppression against the black community has been regenerated, but this dialogue has extended to other races and ethnic groups.

Systemic racism and oppression is a societal issue that has manifested itself in the game of hockey. Though the NHL has been recognized as a vehicle for social change and inclusivity, we are all aware that much more progress still needs to be made.

The experiences of Indigenous individuals in hockey is an issue at every level within the sport. In addition, the use of indigenous imagery has been criticized by many Indigenous groups in Canada and the United States. Professional teams such as the "Cleveland Indians" and "Washington Redskins" have been pressured to change their team name and logos, but advocates believe they "pay tribute" to native groups.

Should the Chicago Blackhawks change their name?
