Arizona Coyotes GM quits just before playoffs

The craziness of everyday life has become normal, but few saw this coming out of Arizona on Sunday. The Coyotes were set to leave for Edmonton to enter the NHL HUB bubble when they suddenly announced GM John Chayka has quit the team, effective immediately.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman broke the story and is reporting that the Coyotes will name assistant GM Steve Sullivan interim GM and his position would be re-evaluated after the playoffs. On Saturday night Friedman also reported that Chayka's relationship with the Coyotes fell apart after Chayka was offered another job opportunity with a different NHL team. The Arizona Coyotes had a 131-147-38 record in the four years that Chayka was GM. Arizona is set to face the Nashville Predators in the first round best of five series, it is the first time the Coyotes are in the post-season since 2012.

This team cannot seem to catch a break, another black eye for an organization that was finally getting some traction.
