Draft lottery for 1st overall pick to be held on Monday

The NHL normally only holds one draft lottery to determine the 1st overall pick, but keeping with the theme of 2020 nothing is normal. The NHL has to hold a second lotto this Monday to see which losing team from the first round qualifiers gets the top pick.

The eight teams that are eliminated from the Stanley Cup qualifiers will all have an equal 12.5% chance at the top prize, Alexis Lafreniere is believed to be a lock to go 1st overall. The teams in the lottery will each have 1 ball in the league's lottery machine. The draft is scheduled for August 10th at 6pm ET/3pm PT.

The Stanley Cup qualifiers are set to conclude on Saturday. There are a few surprising teams with their backs against the wall going into the weekend. Edmonton and Pittsburgh can both be eliminated on Friday night, if that happens there is a 25% chance Lafreniere ends up playing with Sidney Crosby or Connor McDavid. We will find out on Monday night which team gets the potential franchise cornerstone in Alexis Lafreniere.
