Rumor: Calgary Flames make an offer for Frederik Andersen

The Calgary Flames tried hard to trade for Freddie Andersen when Anaheim decided they were sticking with John Gibson several years ago, and it appears they are trying hard to acquire him now.

According to sources close to the Flames, they held talks with the Leafs regarding Andersen, and are willing to include David Rittich, Sam Bennett and this year's 1st-round pick.

The Leafs are reportedly shopping 3 forwards and Andersen to see what kind of market is available at this time, and it appears Calgary was quick to make an offer.

The Leafs aren't sold on Rittich to team up with backup Jack Campbell to take over the crease in Toronto. It's unlikely this offer gets it done.

What would make more sense for the Leafs to acquire from the Flames would be d-man Noah Hanifin and picks, and use the picks along with their 1st rounder they recently received from the Pens and flip those assets into a starting netminder for the future.

There's also a chance they deal Andersen, and try and sign Stanley Cup champion, Braden Holtby to a 3-5 year deal and bring someone in who can win the big game.

Andersen is 0-8 in series clinching games in his career.
