Rumor: LA Kings To Trade For The New York Rangers' #1 Draft Pick

The Los Angeles Kings are in the middle of a rebuild and seek to quickly emerge as a contending team once again. They have a number of highly touted prospects as well as the 2nd overall pick. They are reportedly interested in acquiring the 1st overall draft pick from the New York Rangers in order to select Alexis Lafreniere.

NHL Trade rumors first reported this rumor on July 25th, 2020: Blockbuster Rumor: LA Kings Prepare Trade Package For #1 Pick. However, there have been changes to this package that may be more attractive to the New York Rangers.

As per Lisa Dillman of The Athletic, the Kings are prepared to offer the 2nd overall pick, Alex Turcotte (2019 5th overall) and Gabriel Vilardi (2017 11th overall). They are both centers, which is why other pieces are still on the table.

Rasmus Kupari, Tobias Bjornfot, Arthur Kaliyev and Samuel Fagemo are all attractive prospects who the Kings are willing to include in a trade package to the Rangers. Lastly, the Kings have 11 picks in this draft. They may include them in this package, but it also serves as a security blanket if the Kings are to deal several young prospects.
