3 potential destinations for Henrik Lundqvist

Henrik Lundqvist knew he was getting bought out by the New York Rangers and some are even suggestion he lobbied for it because of a lack of playing time. Now 'The King' is out of a job, and it's not clear at this point whether or not Lundqvist wants to stay in the NHL or head back to Sweden full-time.

We will know for sure by October 9th as free-agency is set to begin. With a saturated goalie market, it will be important for Lundqvist to have made a decision by then, so he doesn't get passed over by a team he may be interested in joining.

If Henrik Lundqvist stays in the NHL, 3 teams to consider would be:

1) Pittsburgh Penguins - Hank's next deal will be on the cheap and the Pens are going to need a backup to Tristan Jarry. If Lundqvist wants a chance at playing 30 games and winning a Cup, Pittsburgh may be his best bet

2) Carolina Hurricanes - The 'Canes have been 'in' on every goaltender as they try to move either James Reimer or Petr Mrazek, who both have one-year left on their deals. If the team can agree to a trade, (as they continue to talk to Calgary and Edmonton) then Lundqvist could be the perfect fit on a cheap one-year deal.

3) Colorado Avalanche - One of the best young teams in the league had to play Michael Hutchinson in a few of their biggest games. While injuries were the cause, the Avs see 2020-2021 as a year to go 'all-in' according to Joe Sakic. Expect the Avs to be interested in the Swedish goaltender.

Lundqvist fans are just hoping the netminder still wants to....
