Minnesota Wild GM Talks Matt Dumba Trade Rumors

Minnesota Wild general manager, Bill Guerin has made several moves this offseason trying to find a new identity for his team. The likes of Eric Staal, Mikko Koivu, Alex Galchenyuk and Devan Dubnyk have all moved on and the Wild are preparing themselves for what should be an interesting season of transition.

Regardless of the changes, sounds like you can expect to see defenseman Matt Dumba in their opening night lineup.

Guerin recently met with NHL.com's Tom Gulitti and had this to say about Dumba staying in Minnesota:

I’m prepared to start the season with him, and we really like that. He’s a good young player. He’s got good energy. I love his competitiveness. Our defensive corps, I’ll put them up against anybody’s.

A top-four that includes Dumba along side Jonas Brodin, Ryan Suter and Jared Spurgeon is a legit defensive core, but there's one problem, the Wild currently have Nick Bonino listed as their #1 center.

Guerin has been candid as ever this offseason and admits the team is trying to find ways to acquire a #1 center for next season.

If he really wants a big name, Guerin may need to change his stance on trading Dumba, as the 26-year-old with three years left on his deal at $6 million and no trade protection, may just be his best asset to deal.

Decisions, decisions...
