NHL Trade Rumors: Senators & Ducks In Advanced Trade Talks
Keep an eye on the Ottawa Senators and Anaheim Ducks this summer as the two teams are rumored to be discussing a huge trade centered around Mason McTavish.
The Ducks forward fell out of sorts within the Ducks' lineup throughout the end of the year and was even scratched twice during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Teams took notice, and specifically the Senators, as they have huge ties to McTavish.
The 23-year-old center is signed through the 2031 season at $7 million AAV, and doesn't hold any trade protection until the 2029 season. McTavish played for the Senators owner and also general manager during his junior hockey career, and his dad is also works for the Sens front office as a scout. Needless to say they know McTavish very well and are working hard to try and acquire him.
As far as a trade return goes, Drake Batherson is on the Ducks' wish list but it's hard to say at this point if Ottawa has any interest moving their power forward. Ridly Greig, Shane Pinto, and Fabian Zetterlund were all involved in trade talks leading up to March's deadline, so there could be a package sent to Anaheim involving one of these three.
McTavish appeared in 75 games for the Ducks this past regular season, scoring 17 goals and 41 points, while averaging 15:19 of ice-time. This was an 11-point drop from his 52-point season a year ago, and is certainly worth some concern. As far as the playoffs went, McTavish scored just one goal in 10 games and ended his postseason with six points.
The Senators own a late first-round pick at next months' NHL Draft in Buffalo, and don't be surprised to see this pick included if McTavish heads to Ottawa before July 1.
