NHL Trade Rumors: 4 Teams Linked To Ducks' Mason McTavish
After missing all that time at camp, the regular season wasn't much better for McTavish, despite being armed with a six-year, $42 million contract ($7M AAV).
Aside from a few brief spells of inspired play, he suffered his lowest production and ice time in his four NHL seasons, with just 17 goals, 41 points and 15:19 average TOI.
Now, the Ducks are clearly listening on trade offers. Maybe they're not actively shopping him, but they're certainly taking calls.
The Fourth Period has linked McTavish to three teams with interest.
St. Louis Blues
"We know that St. Louis is looking to get younger and augment their lineup quite a bit," said insider David Pagnotta, appearing on DFO Live. Obviously, names like Colton Parayko, Jordan Kyrou, Robert Thomas and Jordan Binnington have been out there on the trade block all year, so the Blues are looking to be active, and McTavish, at just 23, is someone they have interest in.
Winnipeg Jets
The Jets have a real need to add a top-six scorer, and finding a way to make a move for McTavish could answer that need. We've already seen the team being urged to make a bold move on a young, exciting goal scorer with an offer sheet. But that would cost some serious draft capital under the league's new compensation rules. Perhaps a trade for McTavish is something that makes sense here.
Toronto Maple Leafs
Another team that's looking for a way to add some punch to their top-six. Certainly, with the No. 1 pick in the draft at the end of June, they will have a chance to do that right off the bat, by selecting Gavin McKenna (or Ivar Stenberg). But just one additional scorer is probably not enough for the Leafs to get back into the playoff conversation. McTavish would be a good young candidate with untapped upside for the front office to consider.
Penguins are another team to watch on the McTavish front
Pagnotta went on to mention another team that makes sense in the McTavish chase, and that's the Pittsburgh Penguins.
GM Kyle Dubas has been doing a nice job targeting underappreciated young pieces to his squad, and "this is the type of player I'm sure they'll be poking around on."
