New York Islanders Sign Three Free Agents

The New York Islanders have announced they have come to terms with both forward Matt Martin and defenseman Andy Greene. The deals were both for one-year.

Martin, a checking-role crowd favorite appeared in 55 games last season, tallying eight points and averaged just over 10 minutes of ice-time a night. Martin's beloved by his teammates for his ability to stick up for everyone on his side and he even chipped in with five playoff goals during the Islanders run in the playoff bubble.

The 38-year-old Greene was a longtime rival of the Islanders in New Jersey and joined the team via trade. He managed to contribute seven points in an Islanders jersey.

The details are limited on the contracts which is right up the alley of Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello. The team will need to make a trade or two as they still have their best player not under contract in Mathew Barzal.

The Islanders have also signed goaltender Cory Schneider.

Trades, a buyout or someone is injured and not playing at all this season. Regardless, something has to happen on Long Island.
