Rumor: Vancouver Canucks & Calgary Flames Discussing Trade

It seems that the Vancouver Canucks and Calgary Flames have switched rosters. Jacob Markstrom and Chris Tanev played for the Canucks last season but are now members of the Flames organization. Conversely, Travis Hamonic and Michael Ferland played for the Flames last season but are now members of the Canucks organization. It now seems that Sam Bennett will reunite with his former teammates in Vancouver.

Before we get into the trade discussion, it's important to understand the Bennett story in chronological order. First, Elliotte Friedman reported that Bennett's agent informed him that Bennett has demanded a trade out of Calgary. The following day, both GM Brad Treliving and Bennett denied these reports and were said to be blindsided by the news. This seemed hard to believe given that Montreal Canadiens GM made the same comments in a similar situation and was caught in a lie. However, the hockey world gave them the benefit of the doubt. Next, Bennett was scratched for the Flames most recent game, but is now again practicing with the main squad. Okay, now lets get to some trade talk.

Sartaaj Bhullar of The Hockey Writers has outlined two possible trade scenarios. Bhullar believes that to acquire Bennett from the Flames, the Canucks would have to give up Jake Virtanen and Adam Gaudette. In the alternative, only one of these players will be offered along with a draft pick. One could assume that the draft pick would be a second or third round selection.
