Rumor: Red Wings To Trade Former Leafs Goaltender

There have been several rumors surrounding the Detroit Red Wings. Marc Staal, Luke Glendening, and Bobby Ryan have been reported to be tradeline bait. Another name has surfaced.

Thomas Greiss has been outstanding for the Red Wings as of late. That's why he's the least likely candidate to be traded at the deadline. According to The Athletic, Jonathan Bernier is reportedly on the way out of Detroit. He has served as a 1b option for the team, but he's likely to be traded to a contending team who is in need of a backup goaltender. He is in the final year of his contract worth $3 million annually.

At this point in time, there are no front runners. The Maple Leafs could be interested if Jack Campbell has not recovered from injury in tine. Nonetheless, Bernier will be dealt at a relatively low cost due to his contract expiring and the Wings' lack of success.
