Maple Leafs Jack Campbell Quickly Becoming #1 Option

The Toronto Maple Leafs defeated the Winnipeg Jets on Friday night as goaltender Jack Campbell improved to 8-0-0 on the season and is now leading the league in save percentage among eligible netminders. With the injury uncertainty of Frederik Andersen and with Campbell's performance, the Leafs now have a serious question to ask themselves once everyone is healthy.

Who Starts Game One of the Playoffs?

At this point and time it certainly feels like it's Campbell's net to run with and considering the Leafs don't really have a solid timetable for Andersen's return, there may not even be any question to answer.

However, one thing to look for here is the Leafs update on Andersen's injury before April 12th's trade deadline. If the team knows Andersen won't be able to return in time for the playoffs, expect to see the Leafs go out and acquire a veteran to add some insurance behind Campbell. Names like David Rittich, Devan Dubnyk and Jonathan Bernier have all been linked to the team.

As for Campbell, he's beloved by his teammates and is as positive as they come on and off the ice. He's become the story of the team these past couple of months and he himself is a bit banged up. The Leafs need to hope and pray he remains healthy enough to play or else general manager Kyle Dubas could have some serious work to get done in short order before the trade deadline.
