Washington Capitals Hopeful Henrik Lundqvist Returns This Season

In some of the most encouraging news of the season the Washington Capitals are reportedly open to the idea of Henrik Lundqvist returning to the team this season. The team isn't ruling it out after the netminder underwent heart surgery and continues to recover.

The veteran goalie was expected to be out for the entire season however his rehab continues to be go well and since the progressing he may be interested in suiting up this season. The Capitals are in the market for adding a veteran goalie on the trade market so this would certainly lessen the need.

Here's what Frank Seravalli of TSN had to say:

Henrik Lundqvist has very quietly continued to skate, he is intent on resuming his career after undergoing open-heart surgery so long as his health allows. He's awaiting word from doctors this week, a critical appointment that will determine his near-term and long-term future. The Washington Capitals, while everything would have to go right, aren't ruling out a return for Henrik Lundqvist this season.

This would be amazing news for Lundqvist, the first-place Capitals and for the entire NHL. It's a better place with 'King Henrik' involved.
