Hockey Insider Sees Buffalo and Vegas Discussing Jack Eichel Trade

According to Darren Dreger of TSN, the Vegas Golden Knights are very likely going to be contacting the Buffalo Sabres this summer to get an understanding of the asking price of captain Jack Eichel.

Dreger was a guest on WGR550 and had this to say:

I’d be surprised if the Golden Knights and the Sabres haven’t had a conversation regarding Eichel. I can’t imagine they won’t explore this.

Vegas would need to move out some money first, and by all accounts it looks like Marc-Andre Fleury and his $7 million will be one of the players moved. Head coach Peter DeBoer confirmed over the weekend that next season his goaltending situation will look much differently and considered having a tandem like Fleury and Robin Lehner a blessing.

As for what it would take to get Eichel to Vegas, word is Sabres general manager Kevyn Adams wants four pieces. The Golden Knights hold their first round pick and the New Jersey Devils second round pick this summer and both could be in play here. One name which will be at the top of the Sabres list is defenseman Shea Theodore, who at 25 and having four years left on his contract paying him $5.2 million is extremely underpaid and would give the Sabres a legit #1 defenseman who could pair with Rasmus Dahlin. Vegas would of course be reluctant but if they want to get serious about Eichel, this is the type of player they would need to give up.
