Latest on Penguins' Evgeni Malkin Trade Rumors

The Pittsburgh Penguins are a team to watch this offseason as general manager Ron Hextall and President of Hockey Operations, Brian Burke gear up for their first summer in charge. While there's been a ton of chatter surrounding the core's future with the team, recently Evgeni Malkin's name has come up in trade chatter.

If you ask Penguins beat writer Rob Rossi, he will gladly tell you to put the kids to bed on this one, nothing's happening with Malkin and a deal:

Malkin has been a warrior for the Penguins for over a decade and enters the final season of his current contract. Hextall has admitted he's willing to talk with Malkin's agent about a contract extension and what the figures will look like, but if he price's himself out of Hextall's wheel house, there's certainly a chance he gets moved next season. While Malkin could retire a Penguin, management isn't going to let him walk for nothing if they aren't interested in re-signing him.

Malkin holds a no-movement clause and is believed to be only interested in playing in New York or Florida if he ever had to leave Pittsburgh. But from all accounts, it sounds like he doesn't have to worry about that for now.
