Vegas GM Confirms Fleury Found Out He Was Traded On Twitter

Well, that's a pretty bad look. Vegas GM Kelly McCrimmon confirmed in a press conference today that Marc-Andre Fleury, the reigning Vezina Trophy winner, received news of his trade through his Twitter feed, rather than from anyone in the Knights organization.

McCrimmon went on to add that the team had discussions with Fleury about a possible trade "several times," including specific discussions about a trade to Chicago on July 12th. The Vegas GM said that he wanted Fleury to be completely aware of any trade discussions he was involved in and that Fleury was free to contact McCrimmon if he heard anything.

McCrimmon added that Fleury "wanted to play in Vegas," and there are reports surfacing that Fleury was not interested in being traded, to Chicago or anywhere else. This might help explain how Chicago managed to acquire the goalie that hauled Vegas to the Conference Finals last month in exchange for a career AHL player. It also lends credence to the rumor that Fleury may just retire rather than play for his new team. That would certainly lower the cost of a trade deal involving him. It's a shame that the face of the Vegas Golden Knights since their inception has been ushered out of town in such an unglamorous fashion.

How do you feel about the way Vegas has handled the Fleury trade?
