Detroit Red Wings: 3 Players With Expiring Contracts

With the off-season almost completed, it feels right to take a preview into next year's. In this segment, we will be looking at three players from each team who have expiring contracts. Both restricted and unrestricted free agents are eligible for discussion.

In this piece, we will be looking at the Detroit Red Wings. They have a few notable players who will need new contracts next summer, so it will be interesting to see what occurs with them.

Filip Zadina RW (RFA): Filip Zadina is a very intriguing player with an expiring contract for the Red Wings. The 2018 first-round pick is seen as having a lot of potential and should be able to take that next step this season. In 49 games this past season, he scored six goals and recorded 19 points. If he puts up a very solid campaign, he absolutely should be getting a notable raise from the team.

Nick Leddy D (UFA): The Red Wings acquired Nick Leddy this off-season. He is expected to be a strong leader for the rebuilding squad and provide solid offense from the backend. In 56 games this past season, the 30-year-old scored two goals and had 31 points. If he puts up another year like that, he should be able to land himself a nice contract. He also could end up being a rental at the trade deadline if the Red Wings want to get back assets.

Robby Fabbri C/LW (UFA): Robby Fabbri has had a lot of success with the Red Wings since joining them during the 2019-20 season. He was limited to 30 games this past season, but in them, he scored 10 goals and had 18 points. Therefore, if he is able to stay healthy, he should be able to have himself a big contract year. Like Leddy, he is a potential rental candidate.
