Montreal Canadiens Made Trade Offers to Multiple Teams

The Montreal Canadiens were scrambling last week as they were trying to figure out their game plan for live without Jesperi Kotkaniemi. While they ended up with Christian Dvorak from the Arizona Coyotes, the team discussed multiple players with a few different teams.

Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet confirmed the team spoke with the Calgary Flames about Sean Monahan, San Jose Sharks about Tomas Hertl (which we reported on Sep.3), and the Washington Capitals about Evgeny Kuznetsov.

The Canadiens weren't interested in paying Kotkaniemi $6.1 million next season and scanned the market for options. Many feel they are better suited with Dvorak as their #2 center, on the contract he's on. While the other side of the coin sees Kotkaniemi as one of the best young centers in the game who has a high ceiling of potential.

As for the rumored players, expect the trade talk to continue as each team is scanning the market as training camp approaches. Certainly sounds like all three could be moved before opening night.
