Ottawa Senators: Best Addition And Worst Subtraction Of The Summer

Now that the off-season seems to be slowing down, we have a pretty good idea of every team's roster heading into this upcoming year. In this segment, we will be going over the best addition and worst subtraction for each of them. Something important to note is that players who were re-signed or given extensions will not be eligible for the "best addition" section. The same applies for picks from this year's NHL Entry Draft.

In this episode, we will be focusing on the Ottawa Senators. They were not too busy this summer, but also did make a few minor changes heading into this season. It is not all that surprising though, as they still need to re-sign Brady Tkachuk and Drake Batherson was also an important RFA. The Senators also have a lot of talented young players who will be given big roles this season.

Best Addition: Michael Del Zotto D

Michael Del Zotto should be a nice addition for the Senators. He is a veteran who will be able to provide a bit more experience to their backend. In 53 games this past season with the Columbus Blue Jackets, he scored four goals and had 13 total points. He notably had a +5 rating as well, which is solid given how much Columbus struggled this season. He has the ability to contribute a bit offensively as well, too.

Nick Holden also warrants some attention. Although he was on Vegas' taxi squad for the majority of the regular season, he did have seven points in 15 postseason games for them.

Worst Subtraction: Evgenii Dadonov RW

Yet, to acquire Holden, the Senators traded away winger Evgenii Dadonov. He had a down year with the team, as he had just 13 goals and 20 points in 55 games. However, on a team like Vegas, he will have the chance to regroup. During the 2018-19 season with the Florida Panthers, he had 70 points in 82 games. He also had 65 points in 74 games the season before. He has the ability to produce solid numbers again, so Ottawa will end up missing him if he does.

Some other notable losses include Derek Stepan, Ryan Dzingel and Artem Anisimov.
