Rumor: Multiple Teams Interested In P.K. Subban

According to Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now, multiple teams are interested in veteran New Jersey Devils defenseman P.K. Subban.

Subban has one year left on his contract and has a $9 million cap hit. It is immensely unlikely that a team would be willing to take on his salary fully. Yet, they should be open to a deal if New Jersey eats a good amount of his contract. Also, with there only being one year remaining, there would not be any real risk adding him.

After a rough first season with the Devils that saw him register only 18 points in 68 games, Subban showed signs of his old self this past year. In 44 games, he scored five goals and had 19 points. Thus, he had more points in less games. If a team utilizes him on their bottom-pair and power play, he may be worth taking a gamble on. This is especially the case if the Devils are willing to take on half his salary.

Although he is not that top-pair defenseman he once was, he still could be beneficial to have. He brings a ton of overall experience and can still contribute on the scoresheet.

In 757 career games between the Montreal Canadiens, Nashville Predators and Devils, he has 110 goals, 335 assists and 445 points.

We will have to wait and see if New Jersey ends up moving him. At a minimum, it is clear that there is interest in the 32-year-old defenseman.
