Trade Rumor: Edmonton Oilers Will Trade First-Round Pick

The Edmonton Oilers are expected to contend out of the Pacific division this season and look for the team to move out some assets before the trade deadline. If the team is in contention, rumor has their first-round pick available for trade.

According to the host of 'Oilers Now' Bob Stauffer the team will make their pick in play if they are comfortably within playoff position. There's a ton of pressure to perform in 2021-22 and you can't blame general manager Ken Holland for trying. He's signed and re-signed some key players and is starting to be open to trades. The Oilers system has several prospects very close to being ready for primetime so the time is now in Edmonton.

Stauffer mentions the team is likely to trade for a goaltender. Makes sense considering the tandem that's in place at the moment. The Oilers are lacking a goaltender of the future or someone in their prime who can run with the net for a couple seasons. Veteran Mike Smith has done a tremendous job but he's not going to be in net forever.

Keep an eye on the Oilers and where they are in the standings come Christmas. If they're in the playoff picture and feel they have a legit shot at winning the Stanley Cup, look for their 2022 first rounder to be shipped out.
