Video: Oilers Tie Game Late In First Period, Flyers Then Get Buzzer Beater

Wednesday night's contest between the Edmonton Oilers and Philadephia Flyers was a very entertaining one. With 17 seconds left in the first period, Connor McDavid tied the game, but it would not last long at all. Cam Atkinson would go on to score a buzzer beat after a turnover by defenseman Darnell Nurse. It's safe to say it was a very fun way for a period to end.

It isn't surprising at all that McDavid once again scored. He's off to another spectacular start this season. In just six games so far, he already had seven goals and 15 points. One has to wonder if he's capable of hitting 150 points by the end of the campaign. Later in the game, he also had an assist on Zach Hyman's sixth goal of the campaign.

Atkinson has been excellent with the Flyers, too. He now has six goals and an assist in five games and is looking more like the 40-goal scorer he was during the 2018-19 season. He also ended up scoring the game winner early in the third period, too. It's pretty safe to say that the Flyers are ecstatic that they acquired him.

Although Atkinson's buzzer beater goal was not the game winner, it was still a huge one. The Flyers would go on to defeat the Oilers by a final score of 5-3.
