Evander Kane Waived by San Jose Sharks

The San Jose Sharks are putting forward Evander Kane on waivers Sunday. Expectation is he will clear waivers and then be loaned to the American Hockey League and begin getting back into game shape.

Kane is eligible to play at the end of the month after getting suspended for trying to use a fake vaccination card. It's been a whirlwind of events for Kane in the media as he certainly has a few doubters. The ones in his corner would point out the fact he's coming off the best season of his career and all the off-ice hoopla isn't a distraction for the veteran forward.

Last season Kane scored 22 goals and finished the year with 49 points in 56 games. It's going to be a bit of an optics nightmare for the team acquiring Kane but belief is there is NHL interest in adding Kane at the right price. The Sharks are now willing to retain some of his $7 million salary for the rest of this season and through the 2024-25 season.

The Sharks are interested to see if any team claims Kane outright and takes on all of his contract. While they wouldn't be getting anything for their prized asset, you can bet San Jose would love to get Kane off their hands for free.
