Washington Capitals Sign Forward To Extension

The Washington Capitals have signed forward Nic Dowd to a three-year extension. It will have an average annual value of $1.3 million and begin next season.

Dowd has become a fantastic bottom-six forward with the Capitals over these last few seasons. He not only works on the penalty kill, but also has been stellar at the faceoff dot. During the 2020-21 season, he went 56.3% and currently is at 56.4% this season.

Dowd also showed last season that he is capable of producing decent depth scoring as well. In 56 games, he scored 11 goals and had 15 points. This season he's been off to a slower start in that department, as he has just one goal in nine games. However, he should turn it on soon.

Nonetheless, this is a very good extension for both parties. It is definitely affordable for the Capitals, especially for what Dowd brings. Furthermore, Dowd also now has a secure job for three more years, so that's a big win for him.
