3 Veteran Defensemen The Rangers Should Target

We recently discussed how the Rangers are on the hunt for a veteran bottom-pair defenseman. As we inch closer to the trade deadline, they certainly should have plenty of options to choose from. Right now, these three rental candidates stand out for the Rangers.

Justin Braun: If the Flyers are unable to crawl themselves back into playoff contention, they will end up as sellers as the deadline. One defenseman who could certainly grab the Rangers' attention is Justin Braun. He's a veteran right-handed defenseman who is reliable on the back end and can chip at times offensively, too. In 29 games this season, he has scored two goals and recorded nine points thus far.

Ben Chiarot: Just like with the Colorado Avalanche, Ben Chiarot would be an excellent addition for the Rangers. The Rangers have embraced a tougher identity and Chiarot also plays a heavy game. With that, he fits their need for a veteran blueliner, while also having a solid amount of playoff experience. Overall, the fit is there, especially when remembering that Patrik Nemeth can play his off side.

Colin Miller: Colin Miller could be classified as a veteran at this point of his career, as he is currently in his seventh NHL season. With the Sabres this season, he's off to a solid start, as he has two goals and 11 points in 28 games. With this, he could give the Rangers a little more offense from the back end. He also was a part of Vegas' deep playoff run during their inaugural season, too.
