Wayne Gretzky: "No Doubt" Alex Ovechkin Breaks Goal-Scoring Record

The Great One has spoken and Mr. Wayne Gretzky believes Washington Capitals sniper Alex Ovechkin will break his career goals record. The hockey king recently commented on OV's talents and said there's no doubt we will see it happen.

Ovechkin who signed a five-year contract extension before the season surprised us all with the length of the deal. There was then no doubt he was going to play as long as it took to break the goal record. It also helps he hasn't slowed down one bit and is on pace for another 45-50 goal season.

Gretzky recently met with the media and had this to say about seeing his record fall:

It’s not even a question that he will pass me, and I think it’s great. He’s well on his way to 40 or 50 goals this year, maybe more. There is no doubt that ultimately, he will break the record. I'm his biggest fan.

Ovechkin is second in the NHL this season with 22 goals in 31 games as a 36-year-old. If the season goes 82 games he could reach 55 goals which at his age is an amazing accomplishment. The Capitals great sits at 752 goals, good for fourth in NHL history behind only Jaromir Jagr (766), Gordie Howe (801), and Gretzky who sits alone atop at (894).

Here's the story of Ovechkin on how he became such a great goal-scorer:
