Buffalo Sabres Lose Key Forward

Tage Thompson of the Buffalo Sabres has been placed in COVID-19 protocol.

Although the Sabres are one of the worst teams in the league again this season, Thompson has quietly been having himself a very good year. He leads the Sabres with 12 goals and 23 total points. This is a significant increase in production, as they are both career-highs for the 24-year-old. His best season previously was last year when he had 14 points in 38 games.

This is poor timing for Thompson personally, as he's been having a very strong stretch of games. Over his last four contests, he had two goals and three assists. It's disappointing that his hot streak now has to be paused due to the virus.

The Sabres currently sport a 10-18-6 record, so the playoffs are obviously out of the question at this time. However, it is tough for them to lose the young forward with how well he's been playing.

In response to this move, the Sabres also called up prospect Jack Quinn to the taxi squad.
