Evander Kane Signing Delayed By New Investigation By NHL

While the rumour mill has been spinning constantly around Evander Kane and where he may sign next, a potential snag in the process has come up in the form of a new investigation by the NHL concerning the 30-year-old winger.  Elliotte Friedman reported earlier today that the NHL is looking into the potential breach of contract regarding his travel after testing positive for COVID-19 in December:

Although the league raised no concerns when Kane's contract was terminated this past Sunday, they are forced to investigate further after the NHLPA filed a grievance on Kane's behalf.  The former 4th overall pick was heavily rumored to be heading to Edmonton, with an announcement expected to come as soon as later today, but it's unclear if this new investigation creates another obstacle for teams trying to sign the troubled former Shark.

Despite all of Kane's off-ice issues he is still a productive player, recording 49 points in 56 games last season, and although it's a step down in competition, he managed to score 8 points in 5 AHL games this season, as well.  While his talent is not in question, his availability might be until the NHL completes its investigation.
