Golden Knights Terminating Forward's Contract

The Vegas Golden Knights have placed forward Lucas Elvenes on waivers and plan to terminate his contract.

Although Elvenes never appeared in a regular-season game for the Golden Knights, he technically was a part of their inaugural roster. The team selected him with the 127th-overall pick of the 2017 NHL Entry Draft, which of course, was the first draft they ever participated in.

For a late-round pick, Elvenes did show signs of potentially being able to take that next step and play in the NHL. For example, in 59 games with the Chicago Wolves during the 2019-20 season, he scored 12 goals and had 48 points in 59 games. However, the 22-year-old has since cooled off and had just two goals and 10 points in 20 games with the Henderson Silver Knights this season.

With his contract being terminated, it seems likely that he will be heading overseas - with a return to the Swedish Hockey League being a good guess. Still, even if that does indeed occur, one has to wonder if Elvenes could find himself in the NHL later down the road. Alas, that surely will not happen with Vegas after this development.
