Money On The Board: NHL's Best Bets for Jan. 8/22

Welcome to Money on the Board, the daily segment where I dive into the NHL's best bets. Jan. 8/22 brings us a slew of games so let's pick a few to sprinkle some action. Last night was a light evening with only two games on the schedule and unfortunately Ovechkin and the Washington Capitals didn't get the job done. Meanwhile Frederik Andersen and the Carolina Hurricanes held on for a 1-1 night. We sit at 5-2 for the week and let's try and get back to our winning ways on Saturday night.

Boston Bruins @ Tampa Bay Lightning
Odds: Bruins (2.55) Lightning (1.53)
Betting Factors: The Lightning welcomed back Nikita Kucherov earlier this week and showed how'd dominant they can be with a full compliment of talent on their roster. Tampa has won two in a row and owns a 12-3-3 record at home. They won the previous meeting 3-2 and are extremely hard to bet against on home ice. The Bruins are 5-3-2 in their past 10 and Charlie McAvoy is a game-time decision. To me it feels like the Lightning keep rolling.
My Pick: I'm taking the Lightning tonight.

Florida Panthers @ Carolina Hurricanes
Odds: Panthers (1.87) Hurricanes (1.97)
Betting Factors: The Hurricanes played last night and will be starting Antti Raanta tonight against the Panthers, who owns a 5-2-1 record with a 2.35 GAA and a .908 save %. The Hurricanes have won five in a row and the Panthers road record is only 4-4-5. Florida is missing some key players due to COVID and with the Hurricanes streaking it's hard to bet against them at home. 9-1-0 in their past 10, lean on the jerks.
My Pick: Sprinkle on the Hurricanes.

Toronto Maple Leafs @ Colorado Avalanche
Odds: Maple Leafs (2.35) Avalanche (1.61)
Betting Factors: The last time these two played the Maple Leafs blasted the Avs 8-3. Both teams come in hot and Colorado puts their 12-2-1 home record to the test. The biggest x-factor of the night may be the Maple Leafs penalty kill which comes in ranked 9th in the league. Even without Mitch Marner and Pierre Engvall, expect to see the likes of William Nylander, Ilya Mikheyev and Auston Matthews step up. At 2.35 on the board, that's great value for a team 7-2-1 in their past 10.

My Pick: Take the Maple Leafs.

Lots of action on the board tonight as we only zoned in on three of the 10 games. Enjoy the games and best of luck. Some great matchups lined up for Saturday night including Marc-Andre Fleury vs Robin Lehner in Vegas. May just have to sprinkle a little late night action on the entertainment in Vegas.
