NHL Rumors: Another Team Interested In Jakob Chychrun

According to James Nichols, the New York Islanders are among the teams currently pursuing Arizona Coyotes defenseman Jakob Chychrun.
The Islanders are just one of many teams who want to add Chychrun. The New York Rangers, St. Louis Blues, Florida Panthers, Los Angeles Kings, Boston Bruins, Anaheim Ducks, and Columbus Blue Jackets all have been linked to them, so the Islanders have a lot of competition to go up against.

At this point of the season, the Islanders have a 14-14-6 record and are seventh in the Metropolitan Division. They have been picking their play up lately, as they have won seven out of their last 10 games. They trail the Bruins by 16 points for the second Wild Card spot, but also have five games in hand. Therefore, they aren't technically out of the running, but they have to win a lot from here to have any shot of catching them.

Even if the Islanders do miss the playoffs, Chychrun is still worth acquiring. He carries a very affordable $4.6 million cap hit and is locked up until the 2024-25 season. Therefore, he would be a long-term investment and a good one at that. This is especially true if he's able to bounce back from his rough start to the season.

Nevertheless, the number of teams in the Chychrun sweepstakes is continuing to grow. Who will be next? Stay tuned to find out.
