NHL Rumors: Canadiens Could Trade Winger

According to Eric Duhatschek of The Athletic, the Montreal Canadiens could trade Tyler Toffoli by this year's deadline.

It's crazy how quickly things can change. Just last season, the Canadiens fought their way to the Stanley Cup Final. However, now with Montreal sporting an 8-25-6 record and having entirely new management, we could see them embark on a full-on rebuild from here. Because Toffoli doesn't have any no-movement clauses and an affordable $4.2 million cap hit until the end of the 2023-24 season, he is one of the biggest trade pieces. Furthermore, he would bring in a ton of interest around the league.

Although the Canadiens have struggled immensely this season, Toffoli has been producing at a solid rate yet again. In 28 games, he has seven goals and 13 helpers. With this kind of production, he could be a nice addition to a team's second line. This is especially the case if they are looking to go on a Stanley Cup run. He has a lot of experience in the postseason.

If Montreal does decide to blow things up, Toffoli seems like one of their veterans who should be dealt. We'll have to keep an eye on this as we get close to the trade deadline.
