NHL Rumors: Canadiens Could Trade Defenseman To Maple Leafs

Although the Montreal Canadiens have a big rivalry with the Toronto Maple Leafs, we could still see them trade defenseman Ben Chiarot there, according to Darren Dreger.

The Canadiens currently have an 8-25-6 record, so they are set to be big sellers this season. All hockey fans are aware of this fact. Thus, when it comes to their big rental pieces like Chiarot, it doesn't ultimately matter where they get traded. If a team like the Maple Leafs or Boston Bruins offer them a big package for him, they are expected to take it - history and bad blood aside.

Chiarot could be an interesting add for the Leafs. They have received a lot of criticism for not being tough enough to play against, and the 6-foot-3 defenseman could help change that. In his 36 games played this season, he has a notable 83 hits. He also has been able to produce well offensively from the back end, as evidenced by his five goals and three helpers on the campaign.

The Leafs have a 24-10-3 record and are aiming to go on a deep playoff run this year. If they can form a good enough package to land Chiarot, it certainly could be worthwhile. However, even if he doesn't end up in Toronto, he should have a new home in the near future.
