NHL Rumors: Dallas Stars Defenseman Requests a Trade

According to David Pagnotta of The Fourth Period, Dallas Stars defenseman John Klingberg has demanded a trade.

The two sides have gone back and forth all season long regarding a contract extension but it appears the defenseman has other ideas and now wants out of Dallas. Klingberg is a pending free agent who is currently making $4.25 million on the cap. Considering his production the past few seasons, he's going to fetch a huge raise on the open market, expect his next contract to start with at least a six.

So far this season, the 29-year-old has been a bit banged up and has only appeared in 25 games, recording 16 points. He's able to play in all situations of the game and as a right-handed shot, is a rare commodity. Needless to say there's going to be a ton of interest.

The Stars have Miro Heiskanen as their locked up #1 defender and cornerstone to build around on the blue line. Add in Esa Lindell who is locked up long-term and veteran Ryan Suter as well and it sounds like Klingberg feels he missed out.

Some teams to keep an eye on when it comes to a trade include the Calgary Flames, New York Rangers, and Toronto Maple Leafs.
