Ottawa Senators Place Defenseman On Waivers

Dillon Heatherington has been placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators.

Before this campaign, Heatherington had not been in the NHL since the 2018-19 season with the Dallas Stars. Yet, due to the Senators having multiple defensemen out, it opened the door for the 26-year-old to has seven penalty minutes.

After playing the 2020-21 season with Barys Nur-Sultan of the KHL, Heatherington returned to North America this summer to play for the Senators. In 15 games thus far with the Belleville Senators of the AHL, he has a goal and seven assists. If he goes unclaimed and heads back there, they certainly should be happy to have him back. Ottawa, on the other hand, likely wouldn't mind having him as a depth defenseman in the minors still.

I wouldn't rule out the possibility of Heatherington getting claimed, though. Although he isn't a star, he could come in handy for a team dealing with a lot of injury trouble on the back end.

In 20 career games between the Stars and Senators, Heatherington has two assists and 33 penalty minutes.
